![]() ![]() I had no idea “writing” could be anything but linear, or that words could do anything but describe what was in a picture, that they could also emphasis what wasn’t. I didn’t know that “writing” could be a combination of images, words and subtleties. Until I grabbed Watchmen randomly off a shelf about seven years ago, I didn’t really understand that writing could be something I did outside a school paper. But occasionally, for some young people who picked it up, it was life-changing. Watchmen was violent, and it was dark, but at the same time Watchmen was human. They could be legitimate literature, and they could move you. In 1986 the collected version of Watchmen, along with Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns and Art Spiegelman ‘s Maus, reminded comic audiences that these funny-pages weren’t just for children. It’s also, coincidentally, incredible in terms of comic book history. ![]() Manhattan who is blue and constantly naked. Oh, there is also an all-powerful man-god known as Dr. ![]()

![]() The book also features an additional chapter on mobility studies, to survey and explore the diverse quality of the field, and methodologies, in order to reflect the growing diversity of methodological approaches to mobilities, from walk-alongs and critical cartography to the mobile arts. It echoes the growing internationalization of mobility research, reflected in diverse case studies from the Global South, South Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and so far under-represented perspectives from China, Australasia, post-socialist Eastern Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere. The new edition explores the more sustained elaboration of mobility studies within a wide variety of disciplinary approaches and subject matters. It explores the breadth of the disciplinary areas mobility studies now encompass, examining the diverse conceptual and methodological approaches wielded within the field, and explores the utility of mobility to illuminate a cornucopia of mobile lives: from the mass movements of individuals within global processes such as migration and tourism, to homelessness and war from the entangled relations caught up in the movement of disease, people and aid across borders, to the inability of someone to cross over a road. ![]() ![]() Mobility aims to take the pulse of this enormously expanded and energetic field. ![]() ![]() ![]() The music ranges from pleasant to annoying. The scenery in Nova Scotia is beautiful, of course, and in general the cinematography takes advantage of that, although at times the shots seem to be largely just random filler. (If nudity isn't motivated, don't use it. Others of the actors are just not as yet very good (and may never be). ![]() Some of the actors are quite promising, but the insufficiencies of the script leave them with little room to maneuver. The script is problematic: Loose ends all over the place which scream out to be connected up and aren't characters who do things with little or no motivation subplots (and there are way too many) which are not fleshed out and have nothing to do with anything anyway. It has a respectable plotline and likeable characters, but it doesn't go anywhere. He marked the year with an arm-spanning tattoo of a "skulltopus", a grinning skull swathed in vibrant tentacles, an image developed as a homage to the different traditions of the weird and fantastic from which his imagination springs.
